There's a ton of UFC news out there all of a sudden and I'm doing a quick round up so the BE community doesn't miss a thing. My comments are in italics following each entry.
Manager Malki Kawa wants Carlos Condit to have rematch with Nick Diaz - MMA Fighting
According to the manager of Carlos Condit, the one-time Interim welterweight champion has a number of options for his next bout. But the one at the top of his manager's list is a rematch with Nick Diaz.
Diaz may be, just may be, tempted to get a second chance at a clear win over Condit but it's hardly the kind of big money mega-bout the Stockton slugger insists he is holding out for.
Fertitta: Culinary union using women's groups as pawns - Mixed Martial Arts News
"These women’s organizations and women’s groups stand for great things, yet they are being used as a pawn by the Culinary Union."
The Culinary Union is using women's groups as a fig leaf to cover up their opposition to the UFC. The legislature is using the Culinary Union's opposition as a fig leaf for their own agenda...see below.
The Ultimate Fighter: Canada vs. Australia coming soon - MMA Fighting
Canadian and Australian fighters will do battle on an upcoming international season of "The Ultimate Fighter."
Oooh boy, remember how TUF Smashes revolutionized the sport....oh yeah...nevermind.
UFC's deep pockets may feed ban - In the Markets Blog | Crain's New York Business
Ultimate Fighting Championship has been lobbying Albany heavily for years to lift a ban on the sport in New York state. But one reason the Legislature may not be acting is to extract more money from this cash-rich enterprise.
I predicted this a couple of years ago. The UFC is the rube coming to the casino that is the New York Assembly. Throwing money around to get your way doesn't work very well when the people you are paying know that as soon as you get your way the money flow will stop. NY has an extremely sclerotic and corrupt legislature, expect them to keep milking Zuffa for cash for many more years.
Karate Kid! UFC champ Georges St. Pierre insists his takedowns are 'zero wrestling' - MMAmania.com
If you’ve ever wondered why UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre has been so successful with his wrestling in MMA, jump inside to see "Rush" explain how it all starts with karate.
I've been fascinated with the subtle role of karate in GSP's success for years now, his comments confirm what Lyoto Machida showed us all years ago -- karate is the pre-eminent discipline for controlling fighting range.
UFC 159 headliner Jon Jones says he still wants to fight Alexander Gustafsson - MMAmania.com
After Jon Jones takes care of business at UFC 159 this weekend in "The Garden State," he says he's ready to turn his attention to unfinished business in the light heavyweight division. That includes facing off against Alexander Gustafsson.
Gustafsson sure could have used a nice easy fight against a hobbled Gegard Mousasi a few weeks back, too bad he got cut and had to pull out. He might get a title shot without having to win another fight -- he's certainly earned one -- but then again he might not.
Cung Le on why he split from AKA, possible Anderson Silva fight and more - MMA Fighting
Cung Le discussed why he isn't coached at AKA, why he surrendered Strikeforce title, his most memorable fight, a showdown with Anderson Silva during the UFC on FOX 7 Q&A this past Friday.
Cung Le vs. Anderson Silva actually kind of intrigues me for a number of silly reasons.
UFC champ Georges St-Pierre: Lightweight move likely easier than middleweight | News – MMAjunkie.com
For years, UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has teased the idea of moving up to 185 pounds. While he's not ruling out such a change, he believes a cut to lightweight would be much easier.
Beating up smaller guys has a kind of universal appeal.
Gilbert Melendez weighs in on judging controversy following UFC on FOX 7 loss | News – MMAjunkie.com
Gilbert Melendez understands why so many people may be obsessed over the idea that a judging controversy took place at UFC on FOX 7, but as far as he's concerned, no such thing exists.
Of course that's how Melendez feels.
