It's only been a little over a week since we say Miesha Tate take a beating at the hands of Cat Zingano at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale, but already she's got her eyes on her next fight, a scrap with recent title contender Liz Carmouche. The UFC has announced that, pending medical clearance the fight would happen at July's UFC on Fox 8 card. Dave Doyle at MMAFighting has the details:
Miesha Tate and Liz Carmouche are in talks to meet at Seattle's Key Arena. But the bout will be on the condition Tate, who is under a medical suspension, is cleared to compete by a doctor. MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani reported the news on Tuesday's edition of Fuel TV's UFC tonight.
Tate (13-4), who was finished by Zingano with a series of knees to the face, could be out until mid-October with her injuries. However, if cleared by an ear, nose, and throat specialist, Tate could be eligible to resume full-contact training as soon as June 13.
Clearly the UFC is lining one of these two women up for another shot at the UFC's women's bantamweight championship. Tate held the belt in it's Strikeforce iteration, taking it from Marloes Coenen with a fourth round submission in a back and forth, grappling heavy match. Carmouche most recently fought as one half of the headline fight at UFC 157, in the UFC's inaugural women's bantamweight title fight.
Tate's medical suspension was given under the suspicion that her nose may have been broken in her fight with Zingano. Most likely the doctor's visit will determine if that is, in fact, the case. If so, this fight probably won't happen. But if the damage is less than was initially suspected, it sounds like the UFC will have a fight waiting for her.
UFC on Fox 8 takes place on July 27th, in Seattle, Washington. Here are the fights lined up so far:
