Daniel Ghita Set To Headline GLORY: 9 In New York City

GLORY, the premier kickboxing league has announced its American debut with an upcoming event at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom on Jun. 22.

Romanian heavyweight star Daniel Ghita (46-9) will face Brice Guidon (28-8) in the night's main event. The match will serve as one of several stateside Superfights in GLORY's championship series.

"We are thrilled to kick off the expansion of GLORY’s world championship kickboxing series to the U.S. with such a high-caliber event in the sports and entertainment epicenter that is New York City," GLORY Sports International CEO Andrew Whitaker stated in a press release. "We are looking forward to establishing the GLORY brand in the U.S. with this debut event that will showcase the product for what it is -- the most exciting and elite form of world-class kickboxing, or martial arts stand-up fighting."

Additionally, the night will feature a one-night, eight-man light-heavyweight tournament. Participants slated for action include KO artist Brian Collette (19-1, 16 KOs), German four-time world champion Danyo Ilunga (51-4, 41 KOs), Filip Verlinden (40-9-1, 16 KOs) of Belgium, Peter Aerts protégé Mourad Bouzidi (75-20-2, 34 KOs), Muay Thai and Karate champion Steve McKinnon (42-5, 29 KOs) and Koichi (26-8-1, 15 KOs).

In Superfight action, 'Bazooka' Joseph Valtellini (8-1, 7 KOs) faces Francois Ambang (9-2, 4 KOs) while Brett Hlavacek (8-1, 3 KOs) squares off with Paul Marfort (10-5, 4 KOs). Glory will be announcing further matches and participants in the coming weeks. For now, here's how the card is shaping up.
