The UFC has been loading up on some fantastic fights on the Fox network, and this one is no different. Welterweights Rory MacDonald and Jake Ellenberger are set to face each other in Seattle at UFC on Fox 8 on July 27th.
MacDonald (14-1) is one of the most talented prospects in the UFC today, and his dominant wins over Nate Diaz, Mike Pyle, B.J. Penn, and of course the incomparable Che Mills have him in the thick of the welterweight title picture. He was scheduled to rematch Carlos Condit, the only man to defeat him, at UFC 158, but a late injury forced him off the card. Injuries have been a major problem for the British Columbia native, as he's withdrawn from four different fights in his three year UFC career.
Ellenberger (29-6) was on his way towards a UFC title shot when he suffered a KO loss to Martin Kampmann last June, failing to capitalize on an early knockdown in the opening round. "The Juggernaut" took an easy, if not uneventful, decision win over Jay Hieron last October before absolutely wrecking Nate Marquardt at UFC 158 in Montreal. Ellenberger is unquestionably one of the most powerful strikers in the 170 lbs division.
The only other fight confirmed for UFC on Fox 8 is between lightweights Melvin Guillard and Mac Danzig. Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson is angling to defend his title in front of the Washingtonian home crowd, but otherwise there's no word on what the main event will be.
