UFC 160: Alistair Overeem hurt and pulls out of bout with Junior dos Santos, Mark Hunt wants to step up

USA TODAY Sports

UFC Heavyweight Alistair Overeem has been forced to pull out of his UFC 160 bout with Junior dos Santos. Mark Hunt, fresh off a KO win over Stefan Struve, has offered to step up.

Alistair Overeem has sustained a minor injury that will put him on the shelf for a little over a month and force him to pull out of his UFC 160 bout with Junior dos Santos. Overeem most recently lost by KO to Antonio Silva at UFC 156. Dos Santos was mauled by champion Cain Velasquez in a five-round decision loss at UFC 155.

The news comes via Ariel Helwani at MMA Fighting:

According to sources close to Overeem, the heavyweight recently suffered an undisclosed injury while training, which will sideline him for four-to-five weeks. As a result, Overeem's camp recently informed the UFC that he will be unable to fight dos Santos at UFC 160 on May 25.

Overeem is hoping to return to action against dos Santos in July, but as of right now, no decision has been made when he'll return and against who. Also, no word just yet on if dos Santos will remain on the UFC 160 card and fight someone else or wait for Overeem to return.

Mark Hunt, who KO'd Stefan Struve last week at UFC on Fuel TV 8: Silva vs. Stann, has offered to step up.

"If I get the call for the fight, I'm there, of course," Hunt told MMAFighting.com Wednesday night, "and the fans are crazy for it, so it's good. Sounds like a pretty good idea to me. I'm not injured. I'm always down for a battle. I was born down. You know this."
