Kyle Terada-US PRESSWIRE
Two powerful light-heavyweights who are both coming off of suspensions will fight on 4th of July weekend, as Thiago Silva faces former Strikeforce champion Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante at UFC 162.
Earlier today it was effectively confirmed that Anderson Silva will fight Chris Weidman in the main event of UFC 162. There's more news coming in that another Silva is expected to fight on this card, as Thiago Silva fights Rafael Cavalcante on July 6th, in a battle of powerful strikers. Via MMA Fighting:
The former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion is expected to meet Thiago Silva at UFC 162 on July 6 in Las Vegas, according to sources close to the fight. The UFC has yet to make the fight official.
Based on two different failed drug tests, Thiago Silva (14-3, 2 NC) hasn't officially won a fight since 2009 when he KO'd Keith Jardine at UFC 102. His most recent fight against Stanislav Nedkov in November went from a 3rd round submission win for Silva to a no-contest following his positive test for marijuana metabolites. Silva's other no-contest came against Brandon Vera after he admitted to falsifying his urine sample.
"Feijao"(11-3, 1 NC) is the former Strikeforce LHW champion, and he earned that crown when he stopped King Mo with standing elbows and punches in August 2010. Cavalcante lost his belt to Dan Henderson the following year via 3rd round TKO. Like Thiago, Feijao's last "win" was changed to a no-contest when he tested positive for stanozolol following his 33 second submission win over Mike Kyle.
