Eric Bolte-US PRESSWIRE
A middleweight title fight between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman looks to be on for the UFC's annual 4th of July weekend PPV in Las Vegas.
Lorenzo Fertitta and other UFC fighters, including Chris Weidman and Ronda Rousey, are in Albany today as they once again continue the push for MMA to be legalized in the state of New York. According to Newsday's Mark LaMonica, Mr. Fertitta has told Weidman that he will get his title fight with Anderson Silva this July:
#breaking Lorenzo Fertitta just told @chrisweidmanufcin Albany that he spoke to Anderson Silva and the fight is on for July 4 weekend.

Weidman himself retweeted what LaMonica wrote, so it appears to be true that he will be fighting Anderson Silva at UFC 162 on July 6th. Chances are you're looking at the main event of the evening.
Silva last defended his middleweight title on July 7th of last year, TKOing Chael Sonnen in the 2nd round of their highly charged and anticipated rematch in Vegas. He did take a fight in October on short-notice against Stephan Bonnar, effectively "saving" UFC 153 with the last-minute main event. Anderson easily dispatched of Bonnar and won by 1st round TKO with a knee to the body and punches.
Weidman has not fought since July 11th, when he obliterated Mark Munoz at UFC on Fuel TV 4 in San Jose. His planned fight with Tim Boetsch at UFC 155 was scrapped when Weidman suffered a torn labrum. The undefaeted New Yorker recently underwent successful surgery and will have a chance to become the new UFC middleweight champion in just his 10th professional fight.
