Soa Palelei is back in the UFC after a six-year absence, and the Australian is reportedly making his return fight against Stipe Miocic at UFC 161.
The UFC has brought back Australian heavyweight Soa Palelei to their roster. Palelei recently signed a multi-fight deal with the promotion, and it appears he has a fight lined up. According to Fight News Australia, Soa will fight Croatian-American Stipe Miocic at UFC 161:
A source also revealed to Fightnewsaustralia.com that Palelei is touted to appear on the UFC 161 card in June with 30 year-old Stipe Miocic (9-1, UFC 3-1) slated as an potential opponent. UFC executives have yet to formally announce the event or the fight.
Palelei has won his last 8 fights, all by KO/TKO, including against Sean McCorkle and Bob Sapp. His last loss came against current UFC HW contender Daniel Cormier back in 2010. His sole fight in the UFC came at UFC 79 in 2007 against Eddie Sanchez, and Sanchez won by 3rd round KO in what was an otherwise forgettable encounter.
Miocic suffered his first professional loss last September when he was knocked out by Stefan Struve in the main event of UFC on Fuel 5 in England. Before that, he had pulled off victories over Joey Beltran, Philip De Fries, and Shane Del Rosario.
UFC 161 is scheduled for June 15th in Winnipeg. No main event is set, but fights such as Dan Henderson against Rashad Evans, Mauricio Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, and Jake Shields versus Tyron Woodley are targeted for the PPV card.
