Rios vs. Alvarado 2 results: Mike Alvarado defeats Brandon Rios in an all time classic

Mike Alvarado celebrates a win in 2011 - Chris Trotman

Bloody Elbow has results from HBO boxing Rios vs. Alvarado 2 as Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado met in a much anticipated rematch of their 2012 fight of the year classic.

Mike Alavardo def. Brandon Rios by unanimous decision (115-113, 115-113, 114-113)

Coming into this fight, the big question was could Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado meet the expectations they set from their first fight? The answer: not only could they meet them, they could exceed them.

The rematch proved to be, in many ways, superior to the first encounter despite the lack of a KO finish. It's hard to find the superlatives to do this fight justice. Both men turned in heroic performances for the ages, but it was Alvarado who really excelled. Heading into the fight, the consensus was that Alvarado needed to box in order to win, and that's exactly what he did, mixing in range boxing with inside brawling when needed. There were some dramatics early on, as Alvarado was badly rocked in round 2, only for him to come back and stagger Rios in round 3. At the midway point, I had it even, but in the back half of the fight, it was Alvarado pulling ahead with his movement and technique.

Incredible, incredible fight that needs to be seen. Missed it? Watch it now. Saw it? Watch it again.

The stage is now set for Rios vs. Alvarado 3 - a fight both men seemed eager to make in a spirited post-fight interview. It can't come soon enough.

Terence Crawford def. Breidis Prescott via unanimous decision (99-91, 97-93, 100-90)

In the broadcast's opening fight, Terence Crawford stepped in on less than 2 weeks' notice to face the more experienced Breidis Prescott. Watching the fight, you would think Crawford was the veteran and Prescott the one stepping in. Crawford simply took him apart while consistently using nice movement to avoid Prescott's shots. Good win for Crawford here - it will be interesting to see who he ends up with for his next fight.
