There was a bit of a shakeup yesterday in the UFC, as they appear to have released 4 fighters, Josh Neer being the biggest name, and Caros Fodor being the most surprising. Brock Jardine and Jon Manley were released as well, but I can't say that's much of a surprise.
In other news of interest, there's a Jewels card coming up this weekend for those who can't be sated by Bellator, SFL, and Invicta. Naho Sugiyama is the fighter to watch as she last fought, and lost to reigning atomweight champ Jessica Penne. Mizuki Inoue is fighting too, she's only 18 and here single career loss is to the highly regarded Ayaka Hamasaki. The card won't include a title fight for some reason. I suppose the three months between events just wasn't enough to set one up.
I've recently added all the Shooto Brazil champions to my champions list, so if you've been clamoring for that, then I've done it for you. If you haven't been clamoring, then I did it for me. The recent Shooto Brazil 37 was supposed to crown a new strawweight champion, but the title fight between Gilberto Dias and Paulo Ricardo Martins resulted in a draw.
Cristiano Pitpitunge is defending his PXC bantamweight title against Michinori Tanaka at PXC 37. It will be his first title defense since taking the belt in February of 2012.
For those who haven't looked in a while I've started listing injuries and semi-retirements on the UFC fighter rosters in order to give a clearer picture of who's really active and who isn't. This isn't always the easiest thing to trace, so if you're sure I've missed something or got it wrong feel free to tell me in the cruelest way possible.
Also recent BJJ gold medalist Talita Treta says she wants to return to MMA competition. Ben Thapa informs me that this is indeed noteworthy. Anyway that's all the little big stuff I can think of in the moment
