It's been a while since I have covered fights in person, but "World Series of Fighting 2" was worth the long haul to Atlantic City and lack of sleep afterwards. Featuring a great heavyweight brawl between Anthony "Rumble" Johnson and Andrei Arlovski, the winners of the televised main card were available after the show for interviews with the press.
Sadly, there was no post-fight press conference, and WSOF President Ray Sefo was unavailable along with the losers of the event for any interviews.
Anthony Johnson was not doing any one-on-one interviews, but here is his media scrum as he iced his hand in the back. Johnson discussed his plans for what weight he will be fighting at next, his contract with WSOF, if he thought the fight was over at the end of the first round, and more thoughts on the bout with Arlovski.
A very nicely dressed Josh Burkman got an exciting knockout via knee to the face on Aaron Simpson, and has his next fight set against the debuting UFC outcast, Jon Fitch. However, Burkman believes that Fitch should earn a shot against him first. "They want me and Fitch to fight but i feel like i earned my spot in a title fight, and I', going to try to push for that. I think Jon Fitch could definitely be my opponent for that, but I think he should come in here and try to win a fight first. He is coming off being cut by the UFC and coming off a loss, so I think he should come in our organization and win a fight and then I think me and him need to fight for the title if he wins that fight."
Dave Branch had his "coming out party" at WSOF 2 with a big win over WEC and Pride FC veteran Paulo Filho, and in spite of Filho's anxiety issues, Branch was too busy thinking about winning than he was with his opponent's panic attacks. "I didn't know what was going on, I was just notified before i got to Atlantic City that my opponent might not be making it. I just kept my fingers crossed and as a professional, he showed up, he made weight... and he came to fight."
Justin Gaethje won a huge upset over JZ Cavalcante due to a stoppage from a bad cut, but even without the blood, Justin was confident that he would have won no matter what. "I didn't get a good a chance to get a good look at it but I wish I didn't. It was pretty close to being over either way. I was going to keep throwing bombs so either way it went, it was going to end soon."
Marlon Moraes got a highlight-reel head kick KO over Tyson Nam, and was ecstatic with the win. When asked with what is next for him, he says he is ready to take part in a tournament or championship fight, but the question was with who. "No names, but they should make some fights before and then I want to fight for the title."
