Two recently injured featherweights are now healthy enough to compete against each other, as Manny Gamburyan fights Hacran Dias at UFC on FX 8.
A featherweight title is reportedly set for May 18th on the preliminary card of UFC on FX 8: Belfort vs. Rockhold. SporTV says Manny Gamburyan and Hacran Dias will battle in Santa Catarina, Brazil.
Gamburyan (12-7) is in desperation mode. The TUF 5 runner up was only 2-3 in the UFC when he was a lightweight, and he's just 1-2 in his return to the promotion as part of the WEC merger. Gamburyan did win his most recent contest over Michihiro Omigawa last August. The height of Manny's featherweight success was a knockout win over former champion Mike Brown at WEC 48. Manny was unable to compete at UFC 157 against Chad Mendes after suffering multiple training injuries.
Dias (21-1-1) handled Yuri Alcantara in his UFC debut last June, but an injury kept him out of a December fight with Chad Mendes. The Nova Uniao product is undefeated in his last 9 fights, and all of his wins have taken place in Brazil (both his draw and loss were in Asia).
