Paulo Thiago vs. Lance Benoist added to UFC on FX 8

Tom Szczerbowski-US PRESSWIRE

Two fighters looking to avoid a catastrophic third consecutive loss will fight in Brazil, as Paulo Thiago fights Lance Benoist at UFC on FX 8 in May.

It is unquestionably a "loser leaves the UFC" matchup made by Joe Silva, and it's set for May 18th in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Local favorite Paulo Thiago and Missouri's Lance Benoist both look to record their first win since 2011, and they are set to fight each other at UFC on FX 8 according to MMA Junkie.

Welterweights Paulo Thiago (14-5 MMA, 4-5 UFC) and Lance Benoist (6-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) are the latest additions to UFC on FX 8.

Thiago burst onto the MMA scene with a stunning KO of Josh Koscheck at UFC 95 in England, and up until 2011 was considered a darkhorse contender at welterweight. His 2012 took a massive turn for the worse, losing by KO to Siyar Bahadurzada in April and then by lopsided decision against Dong Hyun Kim in November.

Benoist won FOTN honors and an upset win over Matt Riddle in his debut in September 2011. He too is on a two-fight losing run, with decision defeats to Seth Baczynski and Sean Pierson last year.

UFC on FX 8 is headlined by a pair of middleweight fights. The main event is between Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold, and the co-main event pits Ronaldo Souza against Constantinos Philippou.
