Two Brazilian bantamweights will fight on the UFC on FX 8 preliminary card, as Yuri Alcantara fights Marcos Vinicius on May 18th.
The UFC is inching closer to filling up their May 18th FX event in Brazil. Bantamweights Yuri Alcantara and Marcos Vinicius are set to battle in Santa Catarina. Ivan Raupp of Brazil's SporTV first broke the story.
Alcantara (27-4-1 NC MMA, 2-1-1 NC UFC) dropped to bantamweight in January, fighting Pedro Nobre on the UFC on FX 7 preliminary card. The fight was controversially ruled a no-contest by Dan Miragliotta, who deemed several of Alcantara's finishing strikes on Nobre were to the back of the head. Replays later suggested otherwise, and Nobre was ultimately cut by the UFC. Alcantara was later paid his win bonus.
Vinicius (20-4-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) was a featherweight on TUF Brazil, defeating Pedro Nobre but losing to Hugo Viana and Godofredo Pepey. The Pepey fight came after he was originally eliminated, but an injury to Rodrigo Damm put Vinicius back in the show, but with Team Vitor Belfort instead of Team Wanderlei Silva. He was invited to fight on the season finale against Wagner Campos, and he solidified his UFC roster spot with a win and a KOTN bonus. Last December he moved to 135 lbs and was brutally knocked out by TUF 14's Johnny Bedford.
UFC on FX 8 is headlined by a middleweight tilt between Vitor Belfort and Strikeforce's final MW champion Luke Rockhold.
