Tonight, join us for week 9 of UFC's The Ultimate Fighter: Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen. TUF airs at 9 p.m. ET tonight on FX. As always, we'll have live discussion here on Bloody Elbow.
This week's episode brings us to a key moment in the season - the conclusion of the opening round of 16. Tonight is the last fight of the round, and it's the wildcard fight. Representing Team Jones will be (no surprise here) Bubba McDaniel. Bubba was the #3 pick for Jon Jones and was choked out in something of an upset by Kelvin Gastelum. For Team Sonnen, the slot goes to Kevin Casey, the #6 pick for Chael Sonnen and a Rickson Gracie disciple who just never got his game going in a decision loss to Collin Hart. He's not the most exciting wildcard pick, but there weren't a ton of options for Sonnen.
With this fight done, the next stage is the quarterfinals, so we'll see what kind of fight announcements for that round we get tonight. This will also be the last week of just one fight per show as after tonight we have 3 weeks and 6 fights left.
