Two flyweights coming off stoppage defeats will battle in Brazil, as Jussier Formiga fights Chris Cariaso on May 18th at UFC on FX 8.
Lost in the shuffle of the UFC 158 coverage was a reported flyweight bout between Jussier Formiga and Chris Cariaso for UFC on FX 8 in Brazil. Tatame first reported the news but the UFC has not confirmed the booking themselves.
Formiga (14-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC), is part of Nova Uniao, one of the best camps in MMA today, and when the Brazilian submission specialist signed with the UFC last year he was expected to contend in the 125 lbs division. Instead, he had an uninspiring October debut against John Dodson and was TKOed in the 2nd round.
Cariaso (14-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC) opened up UFC 155 against John Moraga, losing by third-round submission in an otherwise close fight. The former WEC bantamweight dropped to flyweight last year, winning his debut by decision over Josh Ferguson.
UFC on FX 8 is set for May 18th in Santa Catarina, Brazil, with Vitor Belfort and Luke Rockhold headlining the show. It's likely that this fight will be on the preliminary card.
