In one of the featured welterweight bouts at UFC 158, Jake Ellenberger knocked out Nate Marquardt in the first round.
Jake Ellenberger said before the fight that he only needs to hit a guy once to knock him out. It took a couple more than that, but he definitely got the knockout win over Nate Marquardt in their UFC 158 welterweight bout. Marquardt came out strong and Ellenberger showed him some respect, but all it took was a quick combo and the followup to earn him the KO win at 3:00 of the first round.
Marquardt started out the fight with a plethora of kicks, and landed a punch that sent Ellenberger reeling across the cage. Ellenberger responded with a hard right that backed Nate off. This caused the two fighters to respect each other a little more and they backed off a bit. But just like that, Nate went for a kick and Ellenberger caught him with a combination that put Nate down. Ellenberger landed two more to the side of the head and Marquardt was face down, out cold. He woke up and complained about the stoppage, but it was 100% good.
Ellenberger (29-6) picked up his eighth win in his last nine bouts, while Marquardt (32-12-2) has now lost two in a row.
