UFC 158 results: Chris Camozzi takes split decision over Nick Ring

USA TODAY Sports

Chris Camozzi pulled out a close split decision win over Nick Ring in their UFC 158 middleweight fight.

Chris Camozzi and Nick Ring engaged in a decent striking battle in their UFC 158 main card middleweight fight, but it definitely came up a little short of expectations. Both men landed a bunch of strikes and ended the bout with the faces busted up, but neither of them really hurt the other and it looked more like a points fight at times. In the end though, the judges award Camozzi the split decision victory. The scores were 29-28, 28-29, 29-28 for the Colorado fighter.

The two men weren't shy about throwing kicks in the first round, and each guy was forced to check some of them. Ring was fighting with his hands down, which was kind of odd. Camozzi was doing his best to come forward and strike but Ring was avoiding most of it. Ring was the faster fighter but he wasn't really taking advantage of it that well.

The second was more of the same. When Camozzi brought pressure, he was able to connect pretty well. But when he sat back, Ring was the one landing more. Camozzi backed Ring up with a flying knee, but Ring came back with a solid right. Camozzi briefly locked up a thai clinch and landed a big knee to the forehead. Camozzi's nose was bloodied by a steady stream of Ring's jabs.

Ring came out with some solid leg kicks in the final stanza. Camozzi came over the top with a couple of lefts that landed. Camozzi looked to get Ring's back, and landed some good knees to the legs and stomach. Ring escaped though and went back to kicking. The two men spent the last three minutes exchanging a high frequency of strikes, most of which landed. Ring slowed down late though, and Camozzi might have got the better of him.
