Ever the cradle of future MMA stars, the NCAA division one wrestling championship begins next week in Des Moines. Brackets for the tournament were released on Wednesday. Bloody Elbow's Mike Riordan appeared on MMA and wrestling journalist T.R. Foley's podcast, Backpoints, for a full discussion of the coming tournament.
On the 21st of March, the greatest sporting spectacle in North America takes place on the plains of Iowa. This spectacle, the NCAA division one wrestling tournament, will pit our nation's 330 toughest wrestlers against each other in a grueling meat grinder of a tournament. Saturday evening, 10 of these wrestlers will stand atop the awards podium as national champions.
This year, every round of the wrestling championships will air on the ESPN family of networks. Coverage information can be found here. Additionally, Bloody Elbow will provide daily updates and additional analysis.
This Wednesday, the NCAA finished seeding the tournament and published brackets (here). A short time later, Mike Riordan, Bloody Elbow's staff wrestling analyst, appeared on Backpoints with T.R. The result of this appearance is a long and thorough discussion and preview of all ten weights of this years NCAA wrestling tournament, as well as predictions for the team championship.
