Bobby Green wasn't about to let a terrible reffing call derail his chances at beating Jacob Volkmann in his UFC debut. After losing the first round, Green did some excellent work from the top in the second, only to fall victim to a terrible choice by Kim Winslow to stand them up. Volkmann ended the second with Green's back again, and might have stolen the round back. But in the third, Green outwrestled Volkmann, got to mount, and finished the fight with a rear naked choke. The finish came at 4:25 of the final round.
Green kept his distance early, landing strikes while trying to avoid the takedown. It didn't work though, as Volkmann scooped a single and shook him down to the ground against the cage. Volkmann stacked Green up the cage and landed a few strikes. Green tried to push off but Volkmann took his back and got a body triangle. Green fought off choke attempts for the rest of the round.
Green fought off a couple of takedown attempts at the start of the middle stanza, and actually ended up on top when Volkmann whiffed on a third attempt. Green landed a bunch of short elbows. Green was working well for close to three minutes, but referee Kim Winslow elected to stand the fight up. Green landed a high kick, but Volkmann spun around to his back and dragged it to the ground. He maintained that spot for the final 45 seconds.
Green faded a takedown and landed a nice solid right, but Volkmann landed a groin shot. Green didn't take long before he restarted. Volkmann whiffed on another takedown, and Green got a trip takedown instead. Volkmann got up after a minute or so, but he was tired. Volkmann caught a kick and took Green down, but Green used the momentum to reverse and get back up. Volkmann's relentlessness got him onto Green's back though. Green reversed the position though, right into mount. Green landed some major bombs, but Volkmann held on. Green then took Volkmann's back and sunk a choke. And a bloody Volkmann had no choice but to tap.
