UFC on Fuel 7 results: James Te Huna overcomes adversity, takes decision over Ryan Jimmo

Mark Nolan

In the second main card bout of UFC on Fuel 7, James Te Huna overcame a huge Ryan Jimmo head kick early to win a grinding unanimous decision.

James Te Huna was very, very close to losing his bout with Ryan Jimmo early in the first round. But his perseverance paid off with a hard-fought decision win. Jimmo dropped him with a huge head kick and had him in deep trouble, but he came back with takedowns and ground and pound in the second and third. The judges had it 29-27, 29-28, and 29-28 for Te Huna, who moves to 5-1 in the UFC.

The first minute of the fight was all clinching against the cage. But as soon as the ref separated them, Jimmo dropped Te Huna with a massive head kick. Jimmo pounded away looking for the finish, but somehow Te Huna survived. He was busted open though. Jimmo controlled the whole rest of the round on top, except for one minor guillotine scare.

The second featured more cage work, with Te Huna working hard for a takedown and finally getting halfway through the round. He worked from side control and eventually to mount. Jimmo got back to half guard but was eating some elbows. Te Huna turned up the pressure and beat the tar out of Jimmo, but it was never very close to getting stopped.

The third round looked like a typical Jimmo fight for the first half, with plenty of clinching and hugging. Finally Te Huna dragged him to the floor though, and laid into him with elbows while controlling position. He closed strong with some big strikes.
