Rise of the Valkyrie
Just as promised, the UFC has started to make the women's bantamweight division more than just a one-woman show. On the heels of the Tate-Zingano signing and match up, Olympian Sara McMann and Alexis Davis are added to the big show roster with a possible near future match-up in the works. To those of you that boo-hoo those uppity women taking up your precious card spots all I can say is 'Let them bang, girlfriend.'

Strikeforce
Nah-Shon Burrell and Yuri Villefort appear in what looks to be an eliminator bout at UFC 157, although I have no idea how many fights are left on their respective SF contracts. So who exactly is left that hasn't come over from Strikeforce you may ask? According to the official website the list is as follows:

F-135
Sarah Kaufman (15-2-0, #3)
Julie Kedzie (16-11-0, #15)
Amanda Nunes (7-3-0, #13)
F-145
Gina Carano (7-1-0, NR-I)
Germaine de Randamie (3-2-0, #7)
Cristiane Justino-Santos (10-1-0-1nc, NR-I)
M-155
Estevan Payan (14-3-0, #91)
James Terry (11-5-0, #119)
Justin Wilcox (11-5-0, #79)
M-170
Kazuo Misaki (25-11-2-1nc, #25)
Brian Melancon (6-2-0, NR-I)
M-185
Trevor Smith (10-3-0, #106)
Benji Radach (21-6-0, NR-I)
Anthony Smith (17-8-0, #49)
M-205
Rafael Cavalcante (11-3-0-1nc, #19)
M-265
Josh Barnett (32-6-0, #9)

Retirement Planning
So I stumbled upon can only be dubbed as the Japanese Senior Circuit, or old man crazy fights. I mean there has been discussion bandied about over the idea of a senior circuit, but I never really thought it would happen. First off, the OG Minoru Suzuki comes out of a deep retirement, like 11 years, to fight an opponent to be named. And after seeing the rest of the card this literally could be Ken Shamrock shockingly enough. Both started out in the last millennium (not hyperbole) with Pancrase, the second oldest MMA organization in their first show (as did Takahashi) as well as all that history stuff you should have already learned by reading T.P. Grant or Jonathan Snowden or something. Yet he is not even the oldest fighter on the card at 44.

Mitsuya Nagai hasn’t fought since 1998 – uh, holy shit…also 44.

Takaku Fuke is on a nine fight winless streak, the last of which occurred while Michael Jordan was still playing for the Wizards when he was 40 years old. Fuke is now 44.

U-Spirits then slides in someone half-way legit in Katsunori Kikuno. But he’s taking on a 40 year old in Ito who debuted in 1995, although he has been fairly active in the past few years.

The most astonishing though is the return of Yoshihiro Takayama, of Pride era Don Frye slobber-knocking good times, as he takes on the slender Hikaru Sato in a really old version of David vs. Goliath. Takayama is better known outside of MMA in Japanese puroresu, but the guy is pushing 50, hasn’t fought in 11 years, and actually suffered a stroke in 2005. Bonkers

U-Spirits: Again, Tokyo, Japan – Mar 9
Hiromitsu Kanehara 19-26-5 (NR) vs Yuki Kondo 54-27-8 (319-WW)
Kazuo Takahashi 29-26-3,1NC (NR) vs Kenichi Yamamoto 5-11-2 (NR)
Keiichiro Yamamiya 44-29-10 (248-MW) vs Daijiro Matsui 12-25-6 (NR)
Yoshihiro Takayama 0-4-0 (NR-I) vs Hikaru Sato 21-21-4 (NR-I)
Takafumi Ito 36-32-13 (NR) vs Katsunori Kikuno 18-5-2 (90-LW)
Takaku Fuke 16-28-5 vs Mitsuta Nagai 7-6-0 (NR-I)
Minori Suzuki 29-20-0 (NR-I) vs TBA

Tachi Palace's Finale card
A couple months ago news broke that Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino's tribal council had decided to discontinue holding MMA fights at their Lemoore, CA based venue. This is the same venue that held WEC events from 2001 until they were purchased by Zuffa in 2006. Fortunately, I'll be in the area visiting family and will most likely be attending this final card. If you find yourself lost among the Central Valley cattle farms, let me know and we'll grab a beer and watch Gabe Ruediger in his final MMA match before he retires.
