UFC on Fox 9: Johnson vs. Benavidez II - Live results and play-by-play of main card

Live results and play-by-play for the UFC on Fox main card. In the main event, Demetrious Johnson defends his UFC flyweight title against Joseph Benavidez.

The UFC Flyweight title is on the line tonight as Demetrious Johnson defends his belt against Joseph Benavidez in the main event of UFC on Fox 9. Bloody Elbow will have live results for the entire event which begins today with a pair of prelim fights on Facebook (aprox 4 p.m. ET) and then a three hour FX prelim broadcast (5 p.m. ET) before the main card kicks off on Fox (8 p.m. ET).

This post will cover the action for the four fights on Fox.

The co-main event will feature a Bantamweight tilt between two former contenders in Urijah Faber and Michael McDonald.

The event will hold two other bouts with a Featherweight bout with Chad Mendes and Nik Lentz representing the Featherweight division and Joe Lauzon and Mac Danzig fighting at Lightweight.

Mac Danzig vs. Joe Lauzon

Round 1 - Lauzon got a quick takedown. After about 20 seconds he moved to mount. He landed a big elbow and tried for an armbar. Danzig escaped but almost ended up in another armbar. He escaped that too and set up in top position. Lauzon went for yet another armbar, then a triangle, then an omoplata. Nothing works and they get back up. A couple of nice elbows from Danzig. They spent a while in the clinch before Lauzon got another takedown. 10-9 Lauzon.

Round 2 - The first half of the round was contested on the feet and in the clinch, with neither man getting much of an advantage. Danzig tried to hit a trip but ended up on his back with Lauzon on top of him. A Lauzon elbow opened up a cut on Danzig's head and he had a lot of blood in his eyes. Lauzon landed some more shots and moved to side, then mount with 10 seconds to go. He immediately went for an armbar but Danzig defended. 10-9 Lauzon

Round 3 - Danzig connected with a couple of combos and a leg kick. Danzig and Lauzon collided heads, which briefly stopped the action. Danzig kept up the pressure, landing to the body and head. Lauzon scored with his own punch and got a takedown. He moved to side and looked for a crucifix. Huge elbows from Lauzon, and he moved to mount. More elbows. He looked for an armbar again, but Danzig defended and worked from the top. Lauzon quickly reclaimed top position though. He got back out to side and landed one more big elbow. 10-9 and 30-27 Lauzon.

Joe Lauzon defeats Mac Danzig by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Nik Lentz vs. Chad Mendes

Round 1 - Mendes landed a leg kick. Mendes hurt Lentz with a huge punch. Lentz came back with a left hook and a leg kick. Another big combo from Mendez had blood coming out of Lentz's mouth. Mendes got a takedown. Lentz got back up after to about 30 seconds. Another combo from Mendes, and he stuffed a shot. Lentz pressed forward but got taken down for his efforts. Mendes did the same as before - held him down for 30 seconds, then got up. And they went right back down. 10-9 Mendes.

Round 2 - Leg kick from Mendes. And another. Lentz was missing with punches. Mendes landed with a right hook, but there wasn't much action at all over the first half of the round. Mendes finally got a takedown but Lentz got up quickly. Nice right hook from Lentz. Another takedown from Mendes. A few punches from Mendes but not much action. Lentz got up with 45 seconds to go. Nice right hook from Mendes, and yet another takedown. 10-9 Mendes.

Round 3 - Kick to the body from Lentz. Lentz caught Mendes with a punch and Mendes slipped. He got up right away though. Lentz stuffed a shot and landed another kick to the body. Brief stop due to an eyepoke. Mendes got a brief takedown but only for a few seconds. More kicks to the body get Mendes to take him down again. Lentz pushed off quick though. Mendes with a flying knee and looked for a guillotine. He moved to mount with it. Lentz got it back to full guard. Closer round but 10-9 Mendes, and 30-27 overall.

Chad Mendes defeats Nik Lentz by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

Urijah Faber vs. Michael McDonald

Round 1 - Faber went for an early kick and got a takedown. McDonald tried to trap an arm while Faber landed a few short strikes. They stayed there doing  that for close to three minutes until referee Herb Dean stood them up. Faber with a few kicks. McDonald with a knee up the middle, Faber responded with a left hook. Faber scored with a solid right hook. 10-9 Faber.

Round 2 - McDonald scored first with a straight right. Mayday stuffed a Faber shot. Left hook from Urijah. Faber strayed a bit low with a kick. Faber with a huge right hook that hurt Mayday! McDonald came back right away though. Glancing left hook from Urijah. Solid leg kick from McDonald. Big head kick from McDonald, but Faber clipped him with another right hook! McDonald is hurt! He's chasing him all the way across the cage! Faber jumped on him and locked up the guillotine! IT'S OVER! WOW! WHAT A FINISH.

Demetrious Johnson vs. Joseph Benavidez

Round 1 - They exchanged leg kicks early. Mighty Mouse scooped a single leg but couldn't get a takedown. More kicks from both men. Benavidez scored with a hard right. Johnson clubbed him with a right! WOW! HE'S OUT! Followup punches on an unconscious man! That was crazy!
