Welterweights Hector Lombard and Jake Shields set to fight at UFC 171 in Dallas

A bout between two top 170 lbers has been set for the upcoming PPV in March

Last week on UFC Tonight, it was announced that UFC 171 would feature the Light Heavyweight championship fight between Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira. The bout had been set for the two prior PPV events, but first scheduling conflicts then ongoing injuries on Jones pushed the fight back. Having gotten past those problems, the fight is finally set for March 15 out of the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, TX.

With the headliner locked in, ESPN's Brett Okamoto reported that the event picked up a Welterweight bout pitting Hector Lombard against Jake Shields.

After a disappointing 1-2 run in the Middleweight division, Lombard dropped to 170 lbs. to make his Welterweight debut at UFC 166. He faced off against Nate Marquardt and took only two minutes to knockout the former Middleweight contender. Lombard recently called out Shields for being boring and it looks like the UFC decided to grant his request.

Shields challenged Georges St. Pierre in his second fight in the UFC back in 2011. Since then he's gone undefeated at Welterweight with a unanimous decision over Yoshihiro Akiyama and two split decision wins over Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia in his most recent bouts. He also had a Middleweight win over Ed Herman sandwiched between the Akiyama and Woodley fights that was overturned by the commission after Shields tested positive for an unknown illegal substance.
