UFC 168 results recap: Chris Weidman vs. Anderson Silva II

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Take a look at how the shocking conclusion to the Middleweight title rematch effects both fighters.

UFC Middleweight champion Chris Weidman (11-0) retained his belt in the rematch against Anderson Silva (33-6) with a simultaneously shocking and disappointing injury TKO. Silva's broken leg moved Weidman up to 7-0 inside the Octagon while Silva dropped only his second fight in 18 UFC matches.

Weidman rocked Silva in an early exchange then proceeded to dominate the rest of the first round from top position. Silva was able to get off some solid shots from the bottom, but the round clearly belonged to the "All American." Silva looked more aggressive in the second round before a checked leg kick ended the fight. Silva threw a low kick at Weidman who checked the blow, Silva's left leg snapped in half under the pressure and the fight was declared a TKO for Weidman.

What was the high point of the fight?

The highest and lowest point of the fight was when Silva's leg broke. It was an absolutely shocking end to the bout and such an odd and unexpected conclusion.

Where do they go from here?

Weidman has finally put Silva behind him, but he's got another Brazilian in his way now. For his second title defense, Weidman will fight Vitor Belfort. No official date or event has been announced yet.

For now, Silva is heading to rehab after undergoing emergency surgery immediately following the fight. He hasn't yet declared or decided whether or not he'll continue to compete in MMA.

Watch it now, later, or never?

Seriously? You're an MMA fan that hasn't seen one of the most anticipated fights of the year? Quit being lazy and go watch it.
