Frankie Edgar reveals TUF 19 coaches

Frankie Edgar at the Grapple at The Garden 2013 - Matthew Kaplowitz

After a successful pinfall win over Phillipe Nover at the Grapple at The Garden 2013, UFC featherweight Frankie Edgar revealed his coaching team for the next season of "The Ultimate Fighter".

Trading his MMA gloves in for a singlet, Frankie Edgar stepped onto the wrestling mats to compete for the first time since his senior year of college back in 2005, and was ecstatic to do so. "This got brought up to me a couple of weeks ago," the former UFC lightweight champion said, "Renzo asked me to wrestle here, and wrestling is in my blood so it's nice to get back on the wrestling mats."

Now a featherweight in the UFC, Edgar showed no signs of rust when it came to his wrestling, controlling TUF Season 8 finalist Phillipe Nover for most of their match. Towards the end of the fight, Nover attempted a bodylock takedown that seemed to turn into pulling guard instead, and this accident led to his eventual pin moments later.

Beyond the wrestling mats, Edgar is preparing to meet BJ Penn in 2014, who also dropped to featherweight in order to make this super fight, as well as battle with opposing teams on the nineteenth season of "The Ultimate Fighter". "The show just got done taping last week, it was a great experience, a lot of work, lots of fun, and I'm excited for April when it comes out."

While Frankie would not reveal much about what went on behind the scenes of the show, he did announce his staff of coaches that helped him out. "I brought the guys I work with every day and believe in. I brought in Mark Henry, Ricardo Almeida, Renzo Gracie, Anderson Franca, and some of my teammates, Marlon Moraes, Edson Barboza, and Akira Corassani, so I just brought the guys I work with on a daily basis."

I badgered Edgar as much as I could to get some hints of how him and Penn were on set towards each other and if any fireworks flew, but all I could get out of him was, "You will have to watch and see."
