Suddenly UFC 171 is packed to the gills with exciting welterweight fights. One week ago, the main event for this show in Dallas on March 15th was going to see Jon Jones defending his light heavyweight title against Glover Teixeira. But the ripple effect of Georges St-Pierre's leave of absence bumped that fight to UFC 172, and the vacant welterweight title will be up for grabs in Dallas now.
Who got that fight came down to Johny Hendricks, Carlos Condit, and Robbie Lawler. The UFC decided that Condit had already lost to GSP and Hendricks, so they set up a bout between Hendricks and Lawler for the title. But just in case something goes sideways, Condit is on the card too. The wanted to book him in a rematch with Nick Diaz, but Stockton's favorite son wasn't down with that so the bout went to Tyron Woodley. And if that isn't enough, Jake Shields is fighting Hector Lombard on the show too.
Here's a look at the current card, which is sure to expand in the coming weeks:
Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler [vacant WW title]
Carlos Condit vs. Tyron Woodley
Hector Lombard vs. Jake Shields
Myles Jury vs. Diego Sanchez
Ovince St. Preux vs. Thiago Silva
Bubba McDaniel vs. Tor Troeng
Alex Garcia vs. Sean Spencer
