MMA Tete-A-Tete: Where does GSP's retirement leave the UFC?

Last Friday Georges St-Pierre, the UFC's biggest star, renounced his title and announced he's taking a leave of absence. Kid Nate of Bloody Elbow is joined by authors Brian D'Souza and Beau Dure to talk about what happened, why and where the sport and GSP go from here.

Still reeling from Friday's announcement that Georges St-Pierre is renouncing his UFC Welterweight title and leaving MMA for an undetermined period of time, Kid Nate is back with another iteration of MMA Tete-A-Tete: Coarsening the Discourse with special guests Beau Dure, author of an upcoming book on The Ultimate Fighter, and Brian D'Souza, author of Pound for Pound: The Modern Gladiators of Mixed Martial Arts.

Here's our agenda:

GSP Renounces his title, takes leave of absence

Brian -- are you hearing anything from his camp about the business aspects?

anything about his motivations?

Beau -- I saw almost no MSM media coverage outside of Fox, was that your impression as well?

Everyone -- Dana's treatment of GSP at the UFC 167 presser -- was that a factor?

What does this mean for GSP's future? Is he coming back in 18 months with a much better deal?

MMA Payout estimates that losing GSP will cost the UFC ~300K per event, if he fought 3x a year, that's almost a million buys

If Anderson Silva and Ronda Rousey both lose at 168 where does that leave the ufc?

This is a crossroads for the UFC -- how do they retrench in the North American market?

How does GSP make money post-retirement? What will his income stream be? Will he hold onto any of his sponsorships.

In case you missed it, here's audio of the call with GSP and Dana White fielding questions from the MMA Media.
