Nick Diaz remains retired.
Following UFC on Fox 9, UFC president Dana White said that the promotion offered Diaz a rematch with Carlos Condit. White said that Diaz, who lost a unanimous decision to Condit in the main event of UFC 143, was uninterested in facing Condit at this time.
I said, ‘What do you think about this fight?' He goes, ‘I don't like it.' I said, ‘Well, that was quick. That was an easy conversation.'
White was then asked if he was surprised by the fact that Diaz turned down the fight. He assured those in attendance that nothing surprises him when it comes to dealing with the mercurial fighter from Stockton.
The been there, done that UFC boss then explained why Diaz not accepting the Condit fight did not seem to bother him:
You either want to fight, or you don't want to fight. If you don't want to fight, you can't force a guy. There's guys that are chomping at the bit. If Tyron Woodley texts me one more time. He must text me 15 times a day. When this thing with Georges St-Pierre went down, boom, he wants every fight. There's guys like that out there.
Those are the guys I want to hear from. Those are the guys that I want to deal with. I love Tyron Woodley. I love it.
Unfortunately, the incessant texts from Woodley won't land him the fight that Diaz turned down. As White explained, the promotion will not book Woodley against Condit because Woodley is currently unranked in the UFC's welterweight division while Condit is ranked behind only Johny Hendricks.
While UFC 171 will not feature Carlos Condit versus Nick Diaz or Carlos Condit versus Tyron Woodley, White is hopeful that he will have Condit on that card.
UFC 171 will take place on March 15. Hendricks and Robbie Lawler will headline the card, fighting for the now vacant UFC welterweight title.
