The opening fight of UFC on Fox 9 out of Sacramento, CA featured a Lightweight fight between Joe Lauzon and Mac Danzig. Lauzon was on a two fight losing streak heading into the fight. Danzig was in the same boat having lost his last two fights and 1-3 in his last four prior to the fight.
Lauzon showed his grappling prowess early in the fight with a quick takedown and cutting through Danzig's guard to earn mount. Being slower on the feet, "Creepy Joe's" ground game would become the story of the fight. He kept himself from getting hurt standing before scoring takedowns and dominating on the mat. He cut open Danzig with an elbow to the nose in the second round. He followed that up in the third with another early takedown and move to the mounted crucifix position. From there he unleashed some absolutely brutal elbows before moving to mount.
