UFC on Fox 9 continued with two more preliminary fights on FS1. Scott Jorgensen made his Flyweight debut against UFC newcomer Zach Makovsky, who took the fight on less than two weeks notice as an injury replacement. Pat Healy returned to the Octagon against Bobby Green in a Lightweight fight.
The first round of this 155 lb. fight illustrated the big gap between Green and Healy's striking prowess. Healy looked to come forward and start his grinding game. Green popped off straight punches, slipped Healy's attacks, and circled away almost every time Healy backed him up. Looked like Healy got his nose broken in the first round. Green kept it up through the first half of the second round, leaving healy's face red and bloody. Then Healy hit a takedown and Green looked significantly slower when they got back to their feet. Healy's dogged style allowed him to land more and grind in the clinch. Green turned it back on in the third, even mixing in clinch and takedowns attempts of his own. Healy got a late reversal in the closing seconds to end the fight with a flurry, but it wasn't enough to win back the round or the fight.
Bobby Green defeats Pat Healy by unanimous decision (30-27 x 2, 29-28)
Despite having such a tough draw for his UFC debut, Makovsky showed from the beginning of the fight that he deserved to be there. He struggled to hit his takedowns against Jorgensen and got hit at range, but he landed plenty himself as well. He hurt Jorgensen twice in round one with big punches, then reversed a late-round takedown attempt to end the round on top. A close second round saw both men gaining advantages in grappling exchanges. Jorgensen threatened with a guillotine early and "Fun Size hit a couple takedowns. Makovsky looked to slow down a bit, but still landed some sharp blows. In the final round, Makovsky pressured hard to force the ground action. Jorgensen was fully game and responded with reversals and escapes. The round ended with Zach taking back control and fighting for a year naked choke he was unable to finish.
Zach Makovsky upsets Scott Jorgensen with a unanimous decision (30-27 x 3).
