Report: Georges St-Pierre to drop title, take indefinite leave from MMA

USA TODAY Sports

A report from a French Canadian site states that UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will be relinquishing his title and taking an indefinite leave from MMA.

According to a report from the French-language arm of Canadian sports station TSN, UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre will announce later today that he is taking an indefinite leave from MMA and will relinquish his title. MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani tweeted about the RDS article, which is written in French.

The conference call, which is scheduled for 2:20 p.m. ET/11:20 a.m. PT, will include GSP and UFC president Dana White. GSP had previously announced that he was going to hold a press conference at a mall opening today, but after a conversation with White yesterday, they decided to schedule this conference call before that.

St-Pierre is coming off a controversial decision win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167. After the bout, he stated that he needed a break and wasn't sure what he was going to do. White wanted him to be definitive about what he was going to do, and it appears that today is the day for him to finally announce his intentions.

The champ had been in vacation in Dubai until just a couple of days ago. We'll see if the report is accurate or not in a couple of hours.
