Joe Martinez to handle UFC Fight Night 34 ring announcing duties in place of Bruce Buffer

US PRESSWIRE

Former WEC ring announcer Joe Martinez will make his 2nd appearance in the UFC early next year.

Fans of the WEC will remember Joe Martinez as the long time ring announcer. When the UFC announced plans to merge the WEC roster into the UFC, regular UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer assumed Martinez's duties for the final few WEC shows before the promotion closed. Martinez announced on his Facebook page that he'll be working the UFC's Singapore card on January 4th:

Received my details yesterday. Officially IN to announce UFC in Singapore on Jan. 4th. Ending the year in Dublin with Cage Warriors on NYE and then off to Singapore NYD. #Grateful #TYLJ

This is Martinez's 2nd time as UFC ring announcer, with his debut coming last year in Australia as part of UFC on FX 6. With the UFC holding two events in roughly 24 hours, he was chosen for the FX 6 gig while Buffer handled his normal duties in Las Vegas at the TUF 16 Finale.

Martinez can frequently be heard on Cage Warriors cards in the UK and Middle East, as well as on a few boxing cards hosted by Golden Boy Promotions. His voice is synonymous with the old WEC intros of "The California Kid" Urijah Faber, who was the biggest star in the organization.

UFC Fight Night 34 features a main event between Hyun Gyu Lim and Tarec Saffiedine. The card will be streamed on the UFC's soon-to-be launched online subscription service.
