UFC Fight for the Troops 3 results: Nunes, Bermudez win in prelim action

Esther Lin MMA Fighting

The first two fights of UFC Fight for the Troops 3 to air on Fox Sports 1 saw Amanda Nunes score a TKO victory and Dennis Bermudez take home a unanimous decision.

Featherweights Dennis Bermudez and Steven Siler fought mostly on the ground, at Bermudez' insistence. Siler resisted gamely with a number of submission attempts off his back in the first round but Bermdez tried a nasty arm-in choke from mount for a bit. The second round saw more of the same with Bermudez more clearly dominating in top position and Siler never threatening with a sub. They traded standing early in the third before Bermudez fought his way inside and forced a clinch, got a take down and it was back to Siler's guard. Bermudez tried a standing guillotine before they ended the bout trading in the center of the cage.

The Women's Bantamweight bout that opened the FS1 prelims saw Brazilian Amanda Nunes quickly take down the ex-Muay Thai champ Germaine de Randamie, just as quickly take mount and then launch a sustained ground and pound attack. De Randamie looked to have been blocking most, if not all of the shots, but Referee Herb Dean felt she wasn't doing enough to defend herself and stopped it at 3:56 of round 1.
