Prospects to Watch this Weekend

Here are some of the better prospects fighting this week. I'm not perfect, if I've missed a fight that you know of... or someone has pulled out of a fight let me know in the comments section.

RUFF - 30 Nov - Shanghai, China

FW

Guan Wang (12-0-1) vs. Bakbulat Magomedov (11-0)

Age: 27

Height: 5'11

Magomedov was going to fight Will Chope on the UFC card in Singapore, before his pesky contractual obligations got in the way. This is a big fight for both men as Wang could pick up a very good win over a guy that UFC clearly wants on the roster and Magomedov needs to keep winning in order for his UFC roster spot to still be there when he is free and clear. It is not common to find two undefeated prospects with over 10 wins each facing each other, so I'm very curious to see how this plays out. Wang brings a Sanda martial arts base to the cage, and will match it against the Sambo of Magomedov. I've seen Wang described as the best Chinese fighter Pound for Pound. Magomedov has won 10 of his 11 of his fights by stoppage so far with a mix of TKOs (7), and Submissions (3).

Show Fighting Enterprise - 30 Nov - Quito, Ecuador

MW

Ben Reiter (11-0-1) vs. Amilcar Alves (15-4)

Age: 26

Height: 5'11

Reiter is a powerful fighter, who is looking to clinch and put fighters on their back, where he can work Ground and pound or submissions. Alves is a UFC veteran, but was fighting at Welterweight during his time in the organization. This still would be a big win for Reiter, as he recently went to a draw with Strikeforce vet, Marcos Rogerio de Lima.

M-1 Global - 30 Nov - Tula, Russia

FW

Yuri Maia (12-1) vs. Magomed Magomedov (5-2)

Age: 20

Height: 5'8

Maia is on an 11-fight win streak and has been looking for a step up in competition. He was scheduled to meet Julio Cesar Neves (28-0) in early November before Neves signed with Bellator. Now Yuri will travel to Russia to face Magomedov, who brings a three-fight win streak into the match. Yuri's striking has improved from his early fights, but he still needs to work on his transitions from striking to takedowns if he wants to take his game to the next level.

KOTC - 30 Nov - Orville, CA

FLW

Josh Paiva (4-0) vs. Anthony Figueroa (8-7-1)

Age: 22

Height: 5'6

Paiva has a wrestling background, and you can see it in his game. Look for some nice slams, and throws when he closes the distance. His standup game is developing, and but his wrestling is still his bread and butter. Figueroa is a Strikeforce vet, and should a good challenge for Paiva.

Review from last week:

RFA - 22 Nov - Broomfield, CO

FLW

Zach Makovsky (16-4) picked up a UD win over Matt Manzanares (6-2) to win the RFA FLW championship.

FW

Raoni Barcelos (7-0) picked up a UD win over former WEC/UFC fighter Tyler Toner (14-6).

MW

3-time Division 1 All-American wrestler Sonny Yohn (1-0) made an impressive MMA debut with a 1st round submission of Cordaro Ware (0-1).

Circuito Talent de MMA - 23 Nov - Sao Paulo, Brazil

BW

18 year old Ricardo Lucas Ramos (4-0) scored a 1st round armbar submission over Lucas Mascena (1-2).

MMA Super Heroes - 23 Nov - Sao Paulo, Brazil

FLW (Female)

Kalindra Carvalho Faria (12-3) TKO'd Hellen Bastos (1-1) in the 2nd round of their contest. Faria is now on an eight fight winning streak.

Jungle Fights - 23 Nov - Rio de Janerio, Brazil

BW

Renato Carneiro (7-0-1) suffered an injury and pulled out of his fight with Jonas Bilharinho (3-0-1). The injury also appears to have caused Carneiro's December bout with Thomas de Almeida (14-0) to also be cancelled.
