Here are some of the better prospects fighting this week. I'm not perfect, if I've missed a fight that you know of... or someone has pulled out of a fight let me know in the comments section.
RFA - 22 Nov - Broomfield, CO
Manzanares spent most of his teen years on the amateur boxing circuit. He also compiled 17 amateur MMA fights, which gave him nearly a hundred combined fights before he turned pro. Matt has spent a significant amount of time rounding out his game, and has several submissions to his credit. Makovsky is the former Bellator Bantamweight champ, who is trying to rebuild his career at Flyweight since being released from Bellator.
Raoni Barcelos (6-0) vs. Ricky Johnson (9-5)
This is the second time, I've looked at Barcelos for this piece. Barcelos looks to use his striking to set up his takedowns and work top control. He is good at landing a double leg as soon as his opponent commits to moving forward with a strike. He also does have some good power in his hands, as he ended Joao Herdy Jr. (8-2) seven fight win streak with a short left hook two fights ago.
Sonny Yohn (0-0) vs. Cordaro Ware (0-0)
Yohn was a three time All-American (8th, 8th, 5th) while wrestling for the University of Minnesota. This is his pro-debut, but that is a strong pedigree to be starting with.
Circuito Talent de MMA - 23 Nov - Sao Paulo, Brazil
Ricardo Lucas Ramos (3-0) vs. Lucas Mascena (1-1)
While young in his career, Ramos already hold a win over well regard Legacy FC vet Allan Nascimento (10-2). There is not much tape on him, but he comes from a BJJ base, and is one of those guys I'll be keeping an eye early in his career.
MMA Super Heroes - 23 Nov - Sao Paulo, Brazil
Kalindra Carvalho Faria (11-3) vs. Hellen Bastos (1-0)
Faria is on a seven fight winning streak including a submission over Strikeforce vet Carina Damm last time out. UFC announcement that they are adding Strawweight women's divison will mean that quality FLW women will either be asked to move up or down, but there will be more opportunities for them at the highest levels.
Jungle Fights - 23 Nov - Rio de Janerio, Brazil
Renato Carneiro (7-0-1) vs. Jonas Bilharinho (3-0-1)
Carneiro was suppose to fight JF Bantamweight Champion Mario Israel, but Israel suffered an injury, and had to pull out. Now he meets the less experienced Bilharinho. Carneiro has a win over UFC FLW Iliarde Santos, and brings a well rounded game to the cage. He likes to strike, but isn't afraid to go to take it to the ground.
Carneiro is already scheduled to meet Thomas de Almedia (14-0) in December should he get through this fight without an injury.
Review from last week:
LegacyFC - 15 Nov - Houston, TX
Henry Cejudo (5-0) pulled out of his fight due to illness.
TWC - 16 Nov - Lansing, MI
Kevin Lee (7-0) submitted Eric Moon (11-11) in the first round. Lee should be getting a call from the UFC soon.
Thanks to Anton Tabuena who let me know that Jumabieke Tuerxun picked up a win in China this weekend over Yuki Nakahara. Despite reports that Tuerxun signed with UFC, he is under contract in China, and will be fighting there through March.
