Dana White says GSP vs Hendricks rematch is 'on track'

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sp

Despite all the post-fight talk about the UFC champ taking a break from the sport following UFC 167, Dana White says that they are having no issues in early talks to book a rematch between Georges St-Pierre and Johny Hendricks.

Breathe easy UFC fans. Despite all the hyperventilating since Saturday, Dana White's got everything under control and we'll get that immediate rematch between Georges St-Pierre and Johny Hendricks following the controversial outcome of their bout at UFC 167.

Here's what Dana told the LA Times:

"As far as a rematch, we're on schedule and I'll have a date within a couple weeks," White said. "I feel confident that Georges is fine with that and all is on track."

White declined to speculate when the anticipated rematch would happen, but a likely time frame would be around the UFC's annual Memorial Day weekend card in Las Vegas - which White said could happen.

Interesting that they're talking about Vegas when earlier rumors had mentioned the possibility of the fight taking place in Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

Hendricks is recovering from a knee injury suffered during the fight and is supposed to be out of commission for several months. Wonder how that will impact the scheduling.

As far as GSP "owing" the fight to the UFC and the fans, Dana cleared that up in an appearance on the Dan Le Batard show (quote via the LA Times):

He doesn't owe anything. If he wants to retire, he can retire, said White. But if you don't think that while he holds the belt and he still wants to stay in the sport that he has to step up and defend the title, you're crazy. He can retire and give up the belt.
