Top ten middleweight showdown: Jacare vs. Carmont set for Feb. 15 bout

Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

The UFC has lined up two of it's top ten middleweights for the co-main event of it's February 15th card in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil.

It looks like February 15th will be a big night for the Middlweight division. The card, originally set for February 8th (but pushed back a week), will be headlined by Lyoto Machida vs. Gegard Mousasi. The UFC announced via Twitter on Tuesday that the co-main event will now have Ronaldo Souza facing off against Francis Carmont.

Francis Carmont is currently ranked as the UFC's number 8 middlweight, with Jacare all the way up in the number 3 slot. Machida stands at 5, with Mousasi unranked as this will be his first UFC fight in the division (although he is still sitting as the UFC's 8th best Light Heavyweight).

Carmont vs. Souza should provide the perfect fight for fans critical of Carmont's grappling and decision heavy style. Jacare's excellent mix of sharp, powerful boxing and crushing Jiu Jitsu should work to move Carmont out of his comfort zones. No other fights have been announced for the card at this time, but I expect it will start to fill up in the coming week.
