Andre Ward def. Edwin Rodriguez by unanimous decision (118-106, 117-107, 116-108)
In Andre Ward's return to the ring after a year long absence, the Super Middleweight champion had little trouble with Edwin Rodriguez. Early on, the fight was a rough and tumble affair, heavy on clinching and grappling. But after a 2 point deduction given to each fighter in round 4, plus the threat of disqualification, the fight settled down. From there, Ward used his power jab to get off first, consistently outlanding Rodriguez by increasingly wide margins. In round 10, Ward staggered Rodriguez badly with a left hook, but could not drop him. In the end, Rodriguez held on until the final bell, never tasting the canvas. Though it did reach the judges' scorecards, the fight was never in question. Clearly, Andre Ward is right back where he was before his injury. The question on everyone's minds now will be what next for the pound for pound great.
