The co-main event of UFC 167 saw two fighters coming in that were going in different directions. Rashad Evans hadn't looked good in his last few fights, while Chael Sonnen already knew what he was doing after the bout, win or lose. In the end, it was Evans that was dominant. He took Chael down and battered him until the bout was stopped late in the first round. The finish came at the 4:05 mark.
As usual, Sonnen charged right out and looked for a takedown in the first round. They engaged in a clinch battle instead, which was basically a stalemate. Evans looked for the takedown, which got stuffed by Chael. Rashad opened up a bit with a few punches but ended up clinching again. Evans finally got a takedown halfway through the round and landed a few rights.
Evan landed a big elbow and Chael rolled over. Evans opened up with more punches and moved to mount. Evans flattened him out and pounded away. Chael wasn't able to defend himself so the ref stopped the fight.
Evans has now won two straight after losing two in a row. Chael has now lost three of four, albeit against elite competition.
