The UFC 167 welterweight battle between Rick Story and Brian Ebersole was definitely a style clash, but it was expected to be a close fight. Well, it wasn't. Story battered Ebersole with punches early in the fight and buckled his leg with a barrage of leg kicks to pick up a unanimous decision win. It was one of the best performances of Story's UFC career. All three judges had it 30-27.
Story came out throwing lots of punches, as expected. Ebersole stood in there and responded with some sneaky stuff, like a short elbow. Story scored twice with hard left hooks that got Ebersole's attention. Ebersole dropped for a low single but couldn't get it. Story started to land with his patented body shots to start his combinations. The fighters traded huge hooks but neither seemed fazed. Story closed strong.
Story landed a hard kick and got a takedown but Ebersole got up quickly. Story landed another solid left and they exchanged jabs. Story stuffed a takedown and landed yet another right, which has the been the story of the fight up until this point. Ebersole scored with a nice standing elbow and a jab. Rick went back to the body work and had Ebersole a bit confused. Ebersole scooped a single but couldn't get the fight to the floor. They threw down late with Story landing a huge right and Ebersole responding with his own that wobbled his opponent at the bell.
Story scored a really nice trip takedown early in the final round, and scored with a big punch before Ebersole got up. Story started to score with his right hook more as opposed to the left, but that was still landing too. Ebersole was trying, but he couldn't really get anything going. Story buckled Ebersole with another leg kick. Ebersole responded with a nice right exiting the clinch, but he didn't have everything on it. Story chopped him down with two more kicks and worked from side control for the rest of the fight.
