The Brazilian athletic commission has decided to hand UFC featherweight Rony Jason some additional punishment for his antics in the wake of a quick loss to Jeremy Stephens at UFC Fight Night 32 last weekend. Jason busted up his elbow on a door backstage, which required 23 stitches to fix up. CABMMA handed him a 30-day suspension for unsportsmanlike conduct that will be tacked onto the end of his medical suspension. CABMMA CEO Giovanni Biscardi sent out a release regarding the incident:
Due to his anti-sportsmanship conduct in the locker room area, after his bout at the event ‘UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs Henderson’ held on November 9th, 2013, at the city of Goiania (GO), we communicate the suspension of the athlete Rony ‘Jason’ Mariano for a period of 30 (thirty) days, counted as from the end of the period of his medical suspension."
Jason was handed a 180-day medical suspension after the fight, so unless he is cleared early from that (which is generally the norm), he would currently be unable to compete until June 9th, 2014. The TUF Brazil 1 winner (13-4) lost for the first time in four trips to the octagon when Stephens knocked him out in 40 seconds at the event.
