Up and coming MMA gear and apparel company, 93 Brand, has been around for over a year or so and has been starting to stir up the market place. Although they have a limited stock of items to choose from at this time, that does not mean they are not worth taking notice of. In fact, the smaller amount of products means more time to focus on quality, and as I discovered with their stylish "Citizen" fight shorts, the bar has been set pretty high for this company.
The white fight shorts feature sublimated graphics, meaning they will not rub off from extensive wear or use since they are not silk screened on. Instead, they blend seamlessly into the fabric. The sides are split to allow easier maneuvering for your kicks and overall movement, and feel just right with enough space to move around but not so much that your underwear starts peeking out when you get stacked after a failed armbar attempt. I have noticed some shorts tend to get crumpled in the groin area as well in times like that, and thanks to a stretchy panel in the front, that problem is minimized a great deal.
Easily the best selling point of these shorts is the waistline. These shorts include an internal drawstring, like most others on the market, but what separates these shorts from others is the gripping waist lining. The slightly elastic waistband is accompanied by a material that snugly fits to your body and keeps the shorts perfectly in place, whether you are working the heavy bag, sparring on your feet, or rolling on the ground. In a hard training session, your gut will typically shrink for a number of factors (especially if you are a chubby boy like me), but these pants expand and contract with you, ensuring a firm (but never painfully tight) fit around you at all times. I loved this about the shorts and this feature is what sold me on making them my go-to shorts for training.
The only downside right now is the lack of colors to choose from, as these shorts only come in white. I typically do not wear white, but I liked the design enough to go with it. As expected, blood shows up very easily on these, but the material the shorts are made from make it easy to clean those stains and not have them stick around later (I consider it both gross and serendipitous that I got bled on to discover how these shorts would handle that).
You can order the 93 Brand Citizen Fight Shorts in sizes 30" - 38" from Martial Arts Supplies at this link here for around $60, and is a tremendous deal for a very high quality pair of shorts. The fit is one of the best I have felt in a long time, the material is excellent and goes above and beyond what it should do, and the design is pretty nifty too. They may not be the fanciest looking shorts and they are only available in one color at this time, but I have high hopes for 93 Brand and all of their other products that will be coming soon.
