As most of you already know, one of the largest super typhoons in history just ravaged the Philippines this past weekend, with Haiyan (or Yolanda) leaving thousands dead or missing.
To give you an idea on how bad it is now, other recent destructive calamities such as Hurricane Katrina and Super storm Sandy both pale in comparison to Haiyan, which had speeds roughly twice those modern disasters in the US. Have all that hit all these small islands and coast lines, and you can already imagine how bad it got in the Philippines.
I was lucky enough to be based in Metro Manila, which remained relatively safe when Yolanda hit, but my countrymen in the Visayan provinces weren't as fortunate. The death toll is expected to reach the 10,000 range in the city of Tacloban alone, and exponentially more are currently in need of our help. Hundreds of thousands are still in dire need of clean drinking water, medicine and food, so hopefully we as a community can help out even in our small ways.
There are several outlets where you can donate to help the victims, but here are a few easy ways to help out even for those outside the Philippines. (Note that 1 USD is roughly 41 PHP):
They accept PayPal, and other methods of payment, making it really easy to help regardless on what country you're currently staying at. I've already donated this month's salary from SB Nation to the Philippine Red Cross, and I encourage you guys to help out as well. No amount is too small, and every bit counts.
Thanks in advance.
