Despite being en route to a Light Heavyweight match up against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, "Suga"Rashad Evans, Chael Sonnen former title contender in both UFC's Light Heavyweight and Middleweight divisions, is considering jumping back down to Middleweight!
"I'm going to get back to middleweight," Sonnen said in an interview with a Fox Sports representative. "I'm going to get through the Wanderlei (Silva) fight and then I will be returning to middleweight."
Sonnen's most recent win also came at Light Heavyweight against former Pride Superstar and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. Sonnen believes the best competition for him is in fact at Middleweight and he's got a laundry list of top quality opponents he's faced at that weight: Nate Marquardt, Demian Maia, Michael Bisping, and who could forget his feud with previous Middleweight Champ Anderson Silva, the man widely regarded as the greatest fighter in MMA.
And now it seems The Gangster from West Lynn is looking to get back into the mix at 185 against some of the new blood in the weightclass: Jacare, Mousasi, Machida, and even current champ Chris Weidman!
Here's to watching out for his grand return to Middleweight fight fans!
