As has been used for the popular Madden NFL series, EA Sports is letting the fans decide who will be on the cover of their first UFC video game, which currently has a targeted May 2014 release date. One of the match-ups for the opening round of 16 saw women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey pitted against main rival Miesha Tate. In a surprising result, the fans chose Tate over Rousey to advance to the next round. The two, who coached on season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter and previously fought in Strikeforce (with Rousey winning by armbar), will fight again in the co-main event of UFC 168.
In addition to her advancing to the final 8 in the EA Sports cover vote, Tate is also currently on the cover of the latest edition of Fitness Gurls Magazine. The cover, which features the former Strikeforce bantamweight champion sporting a bikini outfit, describes her as "the most beautiful woman in MMA" who can also "kick your ass".
But that's not all! Yesterday on Twitter, Tate put out this "solution" for women who want to take part in the "Movember" movement:
For those who don't know, "Movember" is a month-long event dedicated to raising awareness of men's health issues, with an emphasis on prostate cancer. "Movember" encourages men to grow mustaches for the whole of November and is slowly becoming a globally popular movement.
But as Tate tweeted out, if you can't grow a mustache and you're a woman who wants to participate in Movember, then "Muffvember" is for you, as evidenced by the picture accompanying her tweet.
Going back to the EA Sports contest, voting is underway for the quarterfinals, with polls closing on November 17th. Here are the remaining match-ups:
