The co-main event of the evening did not disappoint. A wild welterweight fight between Erick Silva and Dong Hyun Kim saw both men maintain a ridiculously high level of aggression up until midway through the 2nd round, when "Stun Gun" uncorked a ferocious left hook that put Silva on his back and out of the fight. A follow up hammerfist ended the proceedings in shocking fashion at 3:01. It's Stun Gun's first finish in 5 years and Silva's first KO loss, and the result was completely unexpected given how Erick had seemingly taken control of the fight.
Kim moves to 18-2-1, 1 NC while Silva drops to 15-4, 1 NC, and Silva still has not won consecutive fights in the UFC. This win for Stun Gun was his 3rd straight, and he is in prime position to enter the top 10 of the division come Friday's rankings. Here's Brent Brookhouse's accompanying play-by-play of the round:
Round 2 - They're going wild with some strikes and Silva lands some good shots in the flurry. Silva with more hard knees to the body. Kim keeps coming forward, trying to just wear him out. Both guys looking pretty tired. Hard punches by Silva and Kim is moving backward for the first time. Both men throw punches and Kim's overhand left crushes Silva and he's out. A perfunctory big hammerfist and this one is over. Dong Hyun Kim wins by Knockout (overhand left), round 2.
