is fast approaching, 6 weeks out this Saturday to be precise. Georges St. Pierre
defends the Welterweight
title against Johny Hendricks
on the UFC's "20th Anniversary" show. If Hendricks pulls off the upset, I believe we would almost certainly see a rematch. Who would be next for GSP, were he again successful in defending his strap? There are a handful of really important WW fights over then next 10 weeks with the potential to produce many new contenders, or not.
Contenders- Robbie Lawler/Rory MacDonald winner, Demian Maia & Hector Lombard if each are victorious in their upcoming bouts, Erick Silva/Dong Hyun Kim winner, & the Carlos Condit/Matt Brown winner.
Best case scenario- Silva, Lombard, Maia, & Lawler all finish their next fights impressively. Marquardt lost 2 in a row, Kim is a bit boring, Shields is boring as hell & already fought GSP, & Rory wont fight GSP. Condit/Brown is win-win for the UFC brass.
Worst case scenario- Marquardt, Kim, Shields, Rory all win boring decisions.
Sleepers- Kelvin Gastelum, Tyrone Woodley, Gunnar Nelson, Brandon Thatch
Wildcard- Ben Askren
