UFC 166 results: Hector Lombard knocks out Nate Marquardt in round 1

Esther Lin MMA Fighting

After an uninspired run at Middleweight, Lombard made a heavy handed statement in his Welterweight debut as he dispatched the former Strikeforce champion in under 2 minutes.

At the UFC 166 FS1 prelims, Hector Lombard (32-4-1, 1 NC, 1-2 UFC) made his Welterweight debut against former Strikeforce champion Nate Marquardt (32-12-2, 9-5 UFC).

Marquardt was very wary of Lombard's power early. He circled out while trying to land kicks from out of range. Nate jumped in to grab the clinch and Lombard responded with heavy hooks and uppercuts to make him back off. A big right from Lombard wobbled Marquardt and he went for the kill. A left hand swung under Marquardt's arm and dropped him. Referee Jay Stafin was out of position for the second time tonight and allowed Nate to take unnecessary punishment on the ground.
