UFC 166 results: Jessica Eye edges Sarah Kaufman in split decision win

Esther Lin MMA Fighting

The two debuting women put on a back and fourth striking feature in the only WMMA fight of the night. They both put on a great fight, but one had to come out on top and Eye got the nod on two of the judges' scorecards.

In the only women's fight of the event, Bantamweights Sarah Kaufman (16-2) and Jessica Eye (10-1) both made their promotional debuts on the UFC 166 FS1 prelims.

The ladies came ready to trade leather. The first round was contested entirely on the feet as the two went back and fourth. Kaufman tried to work in the clinch but ate as many shots as she gave for her efforts. Eye landed good combinations as she broke away back into distance.

Eye made good use of the jab in the second round, catching Kaufman trying to come inside. Good uppercuts in the clinch and Kaufman developed a mouse under her left eye. Big right hand from Sarah jumping in over Eye's guard and another good combo in the clinch. In the last two minutes, they returned to trading at range. Eye would look good landing jabs and right hands while staying away, then Kaufman would leap inside to land big punches. Very close fight.

The third round looked like more of the same until Kaufman took over late in the final frame. She landed big with a right hand that had Jessica shook up. She followed up with a series of big punches, but couldn't finish. Eye recovered and the two ended the fight swinging for the fences.

Jessica Eye took the split decision (29-28 x 2, 28-29) over Sarah Kaufman
